Okay so you have purchased an income rental property in Ontario and are now going to be a landlord. Where do you turn for helpful advice, forms, regulation and legal advice? We have all heard stories that make this new world a daunting thought.
For years I have been attending seminars put on by the Landlord’s Self-Help Centre and I have found this non-profit community legal clinic a great support and resource centre for Ontario’s small-scale landlords.
The Centre provides information, summary advice and referrals. It develops educational materials and delivers educational outreach programs which aim to help small landlords better understand their rights and responsibilities and navigate the regulatory environment to which they are subject.
I always advise fellow income property owners that take on the role of landlord in Ontario to look the centre up at www.landlordselfhelp.com and join me as my guest to one of their yearly seminars where they bring together great resources including city vendors, regulators, utilities, lawyers, and the Landlord and Tenant Board of Ontario http://www.sjto.gov.on.ca/ltb/, all under one roof for what are always enlightening evenings. I have never been to an event where I haven’t learned something useful from this support group.
Contact me to place you on the guest list for you to attend the next annual town hall meeting. I’m sure you will find it a useful evening filled with sound advice for landlords.
